In today's world, accessibility is not only a physical need but also a social right. In order for people to live their lives on equal terms, it is necessary to spread awareness and inclusion culture in all segments of society.
In this project, the participants not only learnt about the challenges faced by people with disabilities in daily life, but also discovered how broad a concept accessibility is. They reflected on ways to achieve equal opportunities in areas such as education, work life, social life, cultural events and sports. The importance of the project stemmed from the fact that it provided youth workers with the tools to make disabled people more visible and active in the society.
There were several key elements that made this project special and important:
Mainstreaming Inclusion: The project aimed to make life easier not only for people with disabilities but also for their families and communities. Because inclusion involves not only physical spaces but also social mindsets.
Awareness Raising: Youth workers learnt about many topics ranging from terms that should not be used in communication to empathy techniques. This knowledge not only increased their individual awareness, but also their impact on the communities they work with.
Breaking Social Prejudices: Breaking down misconceptions and stereotypes about people with disabilities was one of the primary goals of the participants. In this sense, the project provided a strong learning and awareness platform.
Promotion of Erasmus Plus Opportunities: Participants who had not been involved in Erasmus Plus projects before learnt about the opportunities to improve themselves, get to know the world and contribute to social change through these projects.
This project has once again shown that raising awareness requires the power of not only individuals but also communities and even international cooperation. The dream of an accessible world is becoming more and more real with these and similar projects.
