We recently had the privilege of participating in an inspiring Erasmus Plus project focusing on the experiences of refugee women. Held from October 22-29, 2024, this international initiative brought together young participants from Romania, Georgia, Estonia, Czechia, and Turkey to explore a crucial yet often overlooked topic: the unique challenges faced by women refugees.

The project emphasized the importance of adopting a gender-sensitive approach to understanding refugee issues. Through workshops, cultural exchanges, and academic presentations, participants delved into the systemic inequalities that refugee women face, including limited access to legal protection, exposure to gender-based violence, and societal discrimination.

Participants also analyzed policies and practices in different countries, contributing to a broader understanding of how gender equality can be integrated into refugee support systems. This was a vital step in challenging the male-dominated paradigm that has historically shaped discourse and practices in refugee studies.

The insights gained from this project have not only deepened our understanding of refugee issues but also reinforced our commitment to creating inclusive and equitable societies. Moving forward, we aim to integrate the lessons learned into our own programs, supporting refugees and marginalized groups through advocacy and action.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the partners and participants who made this project an impactful journey. Together, we’ve taken a step toward ensuring that the voices of refugee women are heard, valued, and supported.
